It connects to my issue because she was told false promises and all they do is get hurt her every day of their life while she was stuck in this system.
The story...
A bed, a teddy bear, and a roll of paper towels are the only contents of a closet sized room where a trafficked 13-year old girl was sold for sex by pimps to 20-30 men a day. On November 5,2003 a woman taken from the Lloyd center shopping mall was found to have been drugged awake for three straight days of sexual slavery by traffickers in Vancouver, Canada (Berg,2004).There’s many stories on this issue and affects children every single day. Human trafficking resembles what American slavery looked like in the 18 and 19th century. The industry exploits vulnerable women and minors for a profit.
“Human trafficking is defined as “the recruitment, harboring, transportation, provision, or obtaining of a person for labor or services, through the use of force, fraud, or coercion for the purpose of subjection to involuntary servitude, peonage, debt bondage, or slavery” (Human trafficking,”2011). In addition, “Largely unrecognized, annual trafficking estimates have ranged from 14,000 to 50,000 individuals in the United States” (“Human trafficking,”2011). Furthermore, “It’s victims are exploited for labor, including commercial sex. To control their victims, traffickers use force, fraud, or coercion, including techniques such as confinement, beating, rape, confiscation of documents, debt bondage, false offers of employment, and threats of harm to the victim or the victim’s family” (Potocky, 2010). Human trafficking remains an issue that goes on all over the United States. Affecting mostly women and children. Both women and children get exploited into the sex industry for profit. Human Trafficking would be like a crime against humanity. For the purpose of exploiting them. Every year, women and children fall into hands of the traffickers, in their own countries even outside of them as well. Every country in the world gets affected by trafficking. The traffickers dehumanize these women and children by selling them in such way. Not only get forced into the sex trade, but these women and children also get treated badly by the traffickers. Usually get treated as if they were slaves. Have to do everything that gets told to them if not the women and children would get beaten and treated worse by the traffickers. They cannot say anything or complain about what their going through. Trafficked continues as a very bad situation that people are a part of because of everything that the people go through and the things that their forced to do.
Human trafficking happens because women and children get sold for profit. Many of these victims aren’t able to communicate to others on what’s happening to them. For this reason the traffickers end up taking advantage: “Many are paid little or nothing for their services and fear deportation because they often do not have identification papers” (“Human trafficking,”2011). Thus, “…the recruitment, harboring, transportation, provision, or obtaining of a person for labor or services through the use of force, fraud” (Kotrla, 2010). These people go through this in a way that benefits others. Women and children get sold for money. Yet nothing stays for them. At the end of the day these victims would be those that are truly hurting emotionally and physically. Always have to handle everything that their going through. Just to make the people in charge happy and get them the money their looking for. Traffickers make money from selling people into the sex industries. This system in which people get forced into with no say what’s so ever. Once their in most likely would end up being very hard for them to get out of this trade..
Human trafficking targets many women all over the United States . Their the ones that have to live in such bad system without being able to get out. In addition, “Many of these victims, mostly women, are abused physically, emotionally, and sexually” (“Human trafficking.”2011). Therefore, “…50,000 women and children were trafficked to the United states annually” (Potocky,2010). Thus, Migrant workers are separated from their social support and their families at home who often are counting on their wages and are forced to tolerate inhumane working and living conditions” (“Human Trafficking,” 2011). Traffickers primarily target women because they’re the ones that usually get affected by poverty and discrimination. Women really have to worry about this the most because the traffickers actually looking for them. They’re the easiest to get because women cannot really defend themselves. The women get trapped into an exploitative and abusive type of system that their not suppose to be in. They’re bought and sold like objects, and also treated with no dignity. While the women in this system it’s like if these women have no human rights because of the way that they get treated as if the women were slaves.
The most tragic thing would be knowing that kids at this age go through this. At a young age children should live an easy life. Children shouldn’t be suffering for being forced into the sex industry. Apparently, “The average age at which children are being lured into commercial sexual exploitation is between 11 and 14, although some are as young as five” (Kotrla, 2010). In addition, “One million children, most of whom are girls, are exploited in the global commercial sex trade every year. Many of these children are violated by sexual acts 100-1,500 times per year” (Human trafficking,”2011). Therefore, “Eighty percent of trafficked individuals are female and 50% of victims are minors . Many are paid little or nothing for their services” (Human trafficking,”2011). Thus, “…U.S. children are being sold for sex not only on the streets, by pimps, but via Craig lists and at truck stops across the country” (Kotrla, 2010). These poor children suffer every single day for profit which doesn’t even benefit them in any way. At this age children should be playing and having fun not suffering. Their not even allowed to have a childhood or anything. Get taken away from their families and end up living a terrible life in this sex industry.
There aren’t really any solutions to this issue but there’s help that these women can try to get. In addition, “As health care providers to women and girls, the members of the American college of obstetricians and Gynecologists should be aware of this problem and strive to recognize and assist their patients who are victims or who have been victims of human trafficking”(Human trafficking,”2011). Thus, “In 2000, the United States enacted the victims of trafficking and violence protection Act to prevent trafficking, protect victims, and prosecute traffickers” (Potocky,2010). There’s resources for these women but these people might not know about them. So the women and children just continue to suffer with this happening to them. There are laws for human trafficking but do not really get enforced this is why its such a big problem all over the world. The laws and programs remain available but not enforced so that these victims really hear about them.
Human Trafficking remains a issue that doesn’t seem to have a solution to completely stop. People have no voice to try to get out.. No matter how hard people try to say something they can’t the situation just gets worse for them. Myself being a women really hurts to know that were its target. Were the ones that get trafficked into the sex industry. Human Trafficking remains a huge problem because its going on all over the world but, more in countries that are poorer than others. Traffickers target those that do not have any resources to do something about the issue. Which continues to target us women because the traffickers see us as being weak and not being about to do much to defend ourselves. I wouldn’t want to be going through something that is this terrible. Human trafficking basically dehumanizes these women. Human Trafficking starts at a very early age and some people get stuck in the system all their lives. Like I am a female I would more likely get targeted as well. Human trafficking remains a issue that many people aren’t unaware of. Which by this there wouldn’t be anything done to help these poor women and children. People really need to get informed on the big issue that many people get affect by every single day.
